HAINES Recovery Position

An unconscious, but breathing person should be placed in the HAINES Recovery Position. This is because the position affords better protection to the spine when compared with other positions. At the same time, the position is able to afford protection to the airway by reducing the chance of the person choking on secretions, vomit or other foreign material which may be present in their mouth.
