CPR Class & First Aid Training

Legitimate Online Certification

Beware of websites that do not offer American Health & Safety Institute (ASHI), American Heart Association (AHA), and American Red Cross (ARC) certification. This is especially true for sites that offer online certification. All state Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agencies accept either of the above certifications for their EMTs and Paramedics. If a program or online website does not offer these training programs, do not be duped by terms such as: "Nationally Accredited," "similar to," "parrallel to," or "follows guidelines."

Instead, look to see whether or not a program or an online website allows you to obtain valid ASHI, AHA, or ARC certification. If they do, then the program is probably legitimate, if not, chances are it is not. Also, look for the AHA, ASHI, or ARC symbol to help you make your decision. Finally, some programs or websites offer both legitimate and illegitimate services. Be sure you find out exactly what you are getting before you pay. A certain competitor website charges $39.95 for CPR & First Aid and then an extra $35 for an ASHI card. This costs almost $75! Why pay $75 when you can buy it here for $55?

What is CPR?

CPR is Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation. In other words, heart/lung revival. CPR is a process whereby a person who has a cardiac event is provided with external muscular support. A long time ago (in the 50s, 60s and 70s if you want to call that a long time ago), the process used to be called "cardiac massage," however, there was no respiratory support provided in this type of resuscitation. CPR has always been designed to keep the patient's blood circulating until advanced care arrives.

The process behind circulation is to attempt to oxygenate the brain so that it can sustain itself until defibrillation or medication administration can take place by Advanced Life Support personnel such as Parmedics. CPR has contributed to an increase in save rates from sudden cardiac death across the United States. The city of Seattle has a wonderful program which has helped to decrease such rates dramatically. We could all learn how valuable CPR is by following their example and implementing an effective CPR program in our community!

    Why Trying Doesn't Hurt

    LEARN CPR NOW!

Attempting CPR is much better than not even trying at all. Although the technique might not be "perfect," any type of CPR will result in the increase in blood flow throughout the body. The process of CPR is more important than the perfection of the mechanics or remembering how many times per minute. If you don't want to do mouth to mouth, then consider doing only chest compressions.

This has been approved as a new standard for those who are concerned about the exchange of bodily fluids, however, consider the fact that if you were dead, would you not want the greatest chance of bring you back. CPR with mouth to mouth has been proven to be slightly more effective in bringing people back. Although there are some technical aspects with regard to the science, the choice is yours. Doing something is always better than doing nothing at all.

    What is First Aid?

First aid gives a person, general information about what to do in case of an emergency. There are a variety of things that people can do every day to ensure that a person receives adequate medical attention in the event of sudden illness or injury. First Aid will tell you what steps you need to take before the ambulance or other medical professional arrives. First aid will also give you an idea of what kind of injuries and illnesses are life-threatening and require immediate attention.

Many people are required to learn first aid for their jobs. If you work with children or in a job where medical problems or accidents are common, it may be required by your employer for you to learn about first aid. First Aid training is also almost like a survey course of First Responder training. Such training is much more extensive and delves into the specific injuries/illnesses in much more detail than a first aid course does. You will find that a first aid course typically lasts anywhere from 2-6 hours.

If you are interested in taking a first aid class or would like more information about first aid, please search for a class. If you have any questions/comments please email us at info@cprclass.org.
